Election for board of directors – vote eligible clubs who are unable to attend will be able to email votes prior to meeting.

Following is a list of the Ohio Cycling Association Nominees for the positions of President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer.

One vote per Ohio USA Cycling club, in good standing, for each of the open positions.
Each club will vote for four persons from the following list of candidates.

Andys Burns

Paul Rouse

Shayne Dillinger

Mitch Graham

Douglas Dobrozsi

Jeremy Grimm

George Conti

When all the votes are tabulated, the four highest will be the new Ohio Cycling Board of Directors.
Those four will then be able to assign titles and tasks as they see fit.

David Groen will be tabulating results, election will be finalized on October 2nd, 2010.

Elections

Time is now – submit nominations for the Ohio Cycling Association board of directors: President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary.

All current USAC license holders with residence in the state of Ohio are eligible.

Deadline for submissions is August 31, 2010. Email nominations to andystburns@aol.com.

Elections will be held during the first two weeks of September, eligible clubs will be notified of election process.

Race Schedule Changes and Upcoming Events!

Congrats to all the participants, organizers, and volunteers at all the races – racing in Ohio is progressing at sprint speed, all due to the hard work of the aforementioned.

Check the schedule for all the latest results – record numbers at Madeira, Hyde Park, Grandview, and the Tour of the Valley, not to mention great turnouts at the Senior State Road Race, Time Trial, and all the spring events.

Canceled are the Kent Criterium, Hudson Road Race, and the Shreve Road Race. The Ohio Masters State Road Championships have been moved to August 28th and will take place in Georgetown Ohio, promoted by BigDaveSports (more details as they are available).

Also back on the schedule will be The Bronzeville Long Street Criterium – thanks to Buckeye Cycling and Kurt Lehmkuhl for reviving the race and anchoring what could become a great weekend of cycling over the summer-ending holiday weekend.

Don’t forget to register for criterium classics and annual racer favorites Ohio State Crit Champs at the Troy Classic as well as the Tour d’Burg, both take place this weekend!

Items to consider at bike races, before, during, and after the event.

A quick note to pass on some important items to consider when participating in a bicycle race event – by no means is this meant to be a comprehensive list. All of these items are important to consider in order to maintain relatively good public standing with sponsors, law enforcements officials, local government officials, local residents, and fellow racers.

Public urination – quite simple, don’t do it!

Changing clothes – be mindful, many of the venues have spectators who may not be as progressive about public nudity as yourself.

Centerline – unless the promoters and officials notify racers of a rolling enclosure or closed course, assume it is open to traffic and respect the centerline of the road. Centerline violations are the number one complaint officials and promoters receive from local officials/residents, and the number one reason courses are no longer available, most importantly riding left of center is extremely dangerous.

Racing solo – whether dropped, riding solo off the front, etc, use prudent judgment by riding as far right as possible and exercise caution around automobiles – generally be aware that local drivers may not realize you are part of a bicycle race.

Trash – simple, dispose of it properly, this includes water bottles, gel packs, etc.

Warm-up – stay all the way to the right, do not pass cars, no more than two abreast, single up in traffic – all the things you would do when riding with one or two friends out training.

Cool-down – same as warm-up, in addition be aware and courteous to other riders who may be racing hard to finish their own race. DO NOT congregate near the officials and/or finish line – this only makes a stressful situation even more stressful.

Results – please be respectful with the officials and promoter when trying to correct a potential error in results.
