Sylvania Fun Ride

A special note on Masters racers. Through lots of conversation and feedback it was decided that the Masters prize money will by limited to those participating in the Masters races who are ages 45 and up, and who are category 3, 4, and 5. There are only 5 of the races that will be scored for these racers, and it is required to do 4 of them to qualify for prize money.

June 23rd – Tour De Burg (State Masters Champs)
June 28th – Grandview
June 29th – Hyde Park
June 30th – Madeira
July 7th – Sylvania (State Category Champs)

The OCA board is excited to bring you this opportunity. We hope that each of you will participate and find the extra series incentive fun. Assuming positive feedback from both promoters and racers we would love to bring this series back again next year – and coordinate categories and races a little more in advance.

Upgrade rules are design to maintain a competitive balance and keep riders racing against similar skill sets. This allows riders to learn, but also to keep the competitive balance amongst the categories. The OCA will make every effort to keep riders in the right category, suggest upgrades when appropriate, and forcibly upgrade where the situation calls.

Road Upgrade Rules

Aiming to help encourage racers to support Ohio races during the summer, the OCA is offering a $3000 prize purse for a series of criteriums in Ohio during the month of June into early July. Currently there are seven races listed on the calendar – however there are still two races we are working to fit onto the calendar and possibly into the Ohio Cup.

The series will be a best of format. If the series stays at 7 races it will be the best 5 of the 7 that will count. If we add two more races to make 9, the best of will go to 6. The final numbers will be announced prior to the first race on the schedule.

As this is our first year working through this, some of the categories on the events don’t match up exactly. We are working through the rules to make sure we provide the appropriate detail prior to final release of rules. We will publish which categories at each race count for the series as the final races come together.

Men 1/2/3 = $1000/10
Women 1/2/3 = $1000/10
Men 3 = $400/10
Masters 40+ = $400/10
Men 4 = $200/5

Qualification: To receive prize money racers have to meet the minimum race requirement. If there are 7 total races, racers will need to do 5 racers to qualify for the overall prize purse. The minimum will be updated based on the final two race confirmations at a later date.

Look for additional information to be released just as soon as we can finalize the last couple races and the qualifying categories.

Juniors are the future of our sport and thanks to efforts in many parts of the state we have a rapidly growing junior race population. By helping these junior experience more with the cycling experience as a junior we hope they will become ambassadors for our sport as it continues to grow.

For road season grant applications, please submit to Ron Garrett as described in the grant application before May 3rd. The board will review all proposals and notify of grants after the board review. The grants will be on a reimbursement basis after the event.

Level C Clinic
This is an introductory clinic for certification of new officials. Instruction will cover Road, Track, Cyclocross, Mountain Bike and other topics.

There is no fee for the clinic, however those participants wishing to take the open book certification test at the conclusion of the clinic will need to pay $35 to cover the cost of their annual officials license. Payment may be made by cash, check or credit card. 2013 USAC rulebooks will be provided to participants and additional study materials can be found at www.usacycling.org/news/user/story.php?id=369. There will be a 1 hour break for lunch during which participants can eat lunch at one of the nearby restaurants.
Space is limited to 25 participants so please indicate your interest to the email address below as soon as possible.

This seminar is open to new C Level as well as current Officials of all levels and will cover 2013 Rules Updates, changes and other topics of interest. Again, space is limited so please indicate your interest to the email below.
