The “Sylvania Cycling Classic sponsored by Yark Subaru” criterium cycling race will take place on Sunday, August 7th, 2011. The all day festival of cycling will be centered in Sylvania Ohio. The beautiful suburb of Toledo Ohio is one mile from the Michigan State line and within 50 miles of the Indiana State line. This will allow easy access to all racers and riders in the Tri-State region. The Mayor, his Council and the City’s Chamber of Commerce have approved of the event and are excited to be hosts for the day.
The course is a .7 mile technical loop which contains three left turns, a right turn, a chicane, and “Cappelini’s Climb”. A short, but steep hill, that is similar to the old Midland Michigan State Championship criterium course’s hill for those that may remember. The course loops around Burnham Park which contains Plumber public swimming pool. The current schedule is to provide cycling races for all categories and skill levels in conjunction with social events that will take place at the park. There will also be not categorized children’s races within the racing schedule.
An additional benefit for all registered racers is that each racer and their family members will also gain access to Plumber pool for the day as part of their entry fee. This will allow families to watch the race (approximately 30% of the course by time is visible from the pool deck) while enjoying a day at the pool. The race supporters realize that cycling needs to be a fun cycling day not only to spectator the races, but to also bring families time together.
Racing is currently scheduled to begin at 8:00 am and will run through the afternoon. A more detailed schedule and information will be released shortly, but please mark your calendars for a fun day later this summer.
